Founder & FIRE Researcher
Self-taught investor with over 15 years of hands-on experience across equities, precious metals, and financial markets. After building London Gold Exchange as a data-driven resource for UK gold investors, Taro created UngrindFi to make FIRE planning simple and accessible — the resource he wished existed when he started his own financial independence journey.
What is Coast FIRE?
Coast FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) is a strategy where you save aggressively early in your career, then "coast" to retirement without saving another dollar. Your existing investments compound over time, reaching your target retirement number by your chosen retirement age.
How it works:
- Calculate your FI number: How much you need to retire (typically 25x your annual expenses using the 4% rule)
- Determine your Coast number: How much you need today so that compound interest grows it to your FI number by retirement
- Hit your Coast number: Save aggressively in your 20s and 30s to reach this target
- Coast to retirement: Stop mandatory savings and work on your own terms while your investments grow
